Angel Sipilia - Three Photographers

Miguel Trillo – Photo Identities

Miguel Trillo is a street fashion photographer who has photographed people who attend concerts or party goers to attend different themes parties. Before reading about Miguel Trillo’s work the first thing that came to mind was the presence of a punk rock element. His photography book has almost like a “fight the power” feel to it by challenging the norms of society and adding a crazier elements to it. Whether it be exaggerated hair or an edgy look, Trillo is sending a message; “This is who we are, take it or leave it”. One other really cool element that I saw across the entire span of the book was that no one was smiling (maybe a grin). Giving the photographs a more intense feel to them. You would think since it has the party element to it that you would see the excitement on peoples face but Trillo does a good job at expressing emotion through the eyes. The camera setting that I think he uses would be a somewhat high aperture with an off white balance and a decent shutter speed. The pictures are kind of grainy which normally I wouldn’t like but it somehow makes these images better. Does anybody else hear Queen’s “We Will Rock You”?

Christopher Makos - Everything Black And White Monograph

Christopher Makos, who is referred to as the most modern photographer in America by Andy Warhol,
is quite the unique photographer. Makos is quoted saying that when he began his first project with Warhol he wanted something unique and something that hasn't been done before and that's exactly what you get when you look at all of Makos work; Uniqueness. Makos photographs everything from landscapes to horses, the unique element in all of them is that he does an incredible job at showcasing and highlighting angles, muscles, and edges in a simple and very sharp way. Makos does photograph from time to time with a soft focus and low aperture to give some of his photo more of a blurry look yet the blur give it the element of movement. It looks like object are moving in real time with the blur but the art behind is he does this fixed structures. His photos are more in the moment and less planned. I think he has an amazing eye for art. He uses a 35 mm camera which is what attracted Warhol to him. Warhol was intrigued by Makos ability to be aware of when the perfect picture was about to happen.

Frederick Sommer - Circumnavigation

Frederick Sommer, was known for his photography skills that were inspired by art, paintings, drawings, collages, poetry, pretty much any thing artistic. Sommer's art was truly unique because Sommer was a unique person. Sommer knew five languages growing up and traveled on several adventures (one of which was the USA). On these adventures he found multiple inspirations but decided to make America his new home due to its diversity and the idea of new experiences. Sommer made art, whether if it was with glue or mosaics, he made art from which he would translate into photographs by using real world objects or a human figures. Sommer's began photographing with a medium format camera and switched to 8x10 camera. His photography style can best be described as precise. He uses a high aperture to get the largest offered detail while also making sure the subject he is photographing is well prepared to fit the image.  Sommer's takes the extra mile to really do the work to create his masterpieces, this is what makes Frederick Sommers, Fredrick Sommers. He created art and then recreates art from that art to showcase something deep and meaningful, imagine finding inspiration from your own work!
